THEME: Telling the Story of Jesus in Asia: A Celebration of Life and Faith
Purpose:
Rationale for primarily a pastoral-catechetical congress:
TO SHARE THE JOY AND ENTHUSIASM OF OUR FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST:
- To broaden our appreciation of the person and mission of Jesus of Nazareth through witness and narrative
- To appreciate how the story of Jesus interweaves with the stories of other religious traditions
- To express our faith in Asian language, song, story, art, music, symbol and architecture, and through the promotion of authentic cultural values and indigenous rights
- To contemplate the Asian face of Jesus Christ in adoration, prayer and worship
TO CELEBRATE ASIAN WAYS OF MISSION THROUGH WITNESS IN THE MIDST OF LIFE REALITIES:
- To deepen our catechesis of mission through stories of faith and life
- To share experiences of Jesus Christ as our reconciliation in areas of communal conflict
- To share experiences of the dialogue of life and action within/among inter-faith families, among neighbours, in the workplace and especially with the poor
TO RAISE AWARENESS IN THE ASIAN CHURCHES ABOUT RENEWED UNDERSTANDINGS OF MISSION AD GENTES DURING AND SINCE THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL:
- To recognise the waves of renewal in mission theology (laity in mission, renewed understandings of salvation, mission-in-dialogue)
- To facilitate an encounter between the local Churches of Asia that they inspire each other to intensive their mission ad gentes through their experiences of life in Christ
- To move forward in mission ecumenically
TO NOTE PRIORITIES FOR A RENEWED MISSION ANIMATION:
- To reveal the Asian face of Jesus Christ in personal, family and societal life
