THEME: STORY OF JESUS IN THE PEOPLES OF ASIA
OVERVIEW:

Beginning with the Opening Eucharistic Celebration, this day focuses on presenting a panorama of the activities of the entire First Asian Mission Congress.

The activities of the morning include the Opening Ceremonies; there will be a formal welcome by Church leaders, both from Thailand and the FABC (Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences). This will be followed by a Congress Orientation as well as a presentation of the delegates. To move everyone into the heart of the Congress, all will listen to the “keynote address."

Afternoon activities begin with a Congress contextualization, focused on how Christian faith came to Asia’s shores. This is followed by the first two thematic “faith sharings," focused on the elderly and the family [two key segments of the “Peoples of Asia"—the theme of the day]. Delegates will meet for the first time in their workshop groups and reflect on their personal faith story, responding to the question: “How have I encountered Christ in my life?" A reflective theological synthesis by an Asian theologian concludes the afternoon. An evening presentation focuses on the Catholic faith in Thailand.
